Utilize A Master Key System Charlotte NC!
What Is A Master Key System?
A master key system is a certain type of lock rekeying procedure. Setting up a system such as this is much more complicated than a standard single user lock rekey. The reason is, it allows people to access doors at different levels using just one key. The grand master or master key user will have top level clearance meaning their key will work all doors. On the other hand, an individual user key can be restricted to having their key only work one door and nothing else.
How Does A Master Key System Work?
Rekeying and master keying locks works by using simple math. It begins by setting up a master keying chart. Our locksmiths in Charlotte use the master chart to map out how each lock will be put together. A lock is comprised of the cylinder, bottom pins, top pins, springs, and the cylinder housing. When a key is inserted into the lock cylinder, the pins are forced up and down depending on the cut depth and spacing. When the cuts in the key match the bottom pin dimensions, the lock cylinder will have a ‘shear line’, thus allowing the lock cylinder to turn. Master keying involves adding additional bottom master pins at different intervals to allow more than one key to generate a shear line. This means that a single lock cylinder, when master keyed, will have multiple shear line options to allow more than one key to turn the lock.

Choose IC Core Master Key Systems!
Choosing the right lock is also important when figuring out which keying system is right for your home or business. Interchangeable Core Locks (IC Locks) offer users the ability to have locks changed out in an instant. As you’ll see from the picture to the left, the lock core is able to be removed from the IC lock housing. This IC housing can be installed in panic devices and many other locks. This means you may not have to order all new hardware for your door. If you own an apartment complex or work at a School, consider IC cores for your preferred keying system. Pairing that with our other locksmith services such as access control and door replacement makes Eastern Safe & Lock the prime choice for Master Key System Charlotte NC and Charlotte Locksmith service.
